Every year, the Algonquin Parents Teacher Organization pulls out all the stops to put on an event that keeps kids safe after prom. They are again seeking help. The easiest way is just by doing your pre-Passover/Easter grocery shopping.
OK, you will need to shop at a specific time and place. The event is Friday afternoon/evening at Roche Bros in Westborough. (That may not be your regular grocery store. But, let’s face it, thanks to Stop & Shop’s labor strike, a lot of you were going to be browsing different aisles anyways.)
Algonquin’s post prom party requires a lot of donations – about $15,000 each year. But it isn’t cheap to organize a free event with can’t miss entertainment that attracts students to spend their post prom night with chaperones. This year’s party will include ice-skating, a mechanical bull, remote control micro car racing, bungee run, airbrush tattoo artists, caricature artists, photo souvenirs, arcade games, DJ, hypnotist, and plenty of food and drink throughout the night.
Here are the details for this Friday’s fundraiser:
A fundraiser is being held on Friday, April 19 from 4-7 p.m. at Roche Brothers in Westborough. Just grocery shop for all the items you will need for your holiday weekend and hand in your receipt to the ARHS Post Prom party volunteer before you leave the store. Five percent of the receipts collected will be donated to the effort.
You can also help out through direct contributions online on the APTO website or via checks written to APTO JPPP account sent to Sue Distler, 71 Chesterfield Road, Northborough, MA 01532.
Of course, it takes more than money to put on the event. It requires chaperones (specifically ones that won’t mortify their children). To that end, the APTO is again reaching out to parents of underclassmen:
Sophomore and Freshmen parents are asked to please consider volunteering and find out what it’s all about – your kids will be juniors before you know it! Please mark your calendars… the Junior Prom is Saturday, May 18th and the PostProm Party is Sunday, May 19th from 12 – 5 AM.
You can check out the APTO’s JPPP page for more details.
