Last week, a revised Request for Proposals was issued for construction on the Southborough Golf Club. The Town is seeking new bids for work on the 1st and 9th greens.
The RFP is the Town’s third attempt to find a contractor that can fix impacts to the 9 hole course caused by building the new Public Safety Complex on the site. The first three RFPs only netted bids far above the budget for the project.
The new RFP follows the Town’s replacement of the consulting architect on the project. In the winter and spring, Town Administrator Mark Purple continued to opine that the budget approved by Town Meeting was sufficient. He indicated that the previous architect led the Golf Course Committee astray with too many asks in the RFP.
In the spring, Purple told selectmen that he believed a new architect would help them simplify the RFP for the correct level of work.
In the Golf Committee’s April 25th meeting minutes, the committee requested for Purple to notify architect Robert McNeil about the termination of their agreement. No minutes have yet been posted for the four meetings since. But an agenda for the June 25th meeting had committee members conducting a site walk for discussion with “the GC architect”.
