Police charge Red Roof Inn guest with firing gun

Southborough Police issued a press release about an investigation into a bullet hole at the Red Roof Inn:

On 9/8/2019, at 2:11 p.m., Southborough Police responded to the Red Roof Inn, located at 367 Turnpike Road, to meet with a guest who reported coming back to his room to find a bullet hole in the window. Investigating Officers Tom Rock and Kevin Landry were able to locate the bullet slug lodged in the window drapes; which had penetrated two layers of glass.

Detective Keith Nichols investigated, and determined the round came from a Red Roof Inn room in a building approximately 300 feet away, across the court yard. The guest in that room admitted to accidently discharging his 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol, while cleaning his weapon the night before. The round penetrated the wall of the room, and traveled across the courtyard. He did not report the incident.

As a result of the investigation, [a Florida man*] has been charged with the following: 1. FIREARM DISCHARGE WITHIN 500 FT OF DWELLING, 131/58/D 2. FIREARM, CARRY WITHOUT A LICENSE, 269/10/J.  [The accused] produced an active Florida license to carry a firearm. Massachusetts does not honor the reciprocity. The firearm and remaining ammunition were seized as evidence.

He has been summonsed into Westborough District Court to be arraigned at a later date.

That could have turned out very differently. I am glad no one was hurt.
