Northborough’s big annual community event is Applefest. It kicks off Thursday, but the big events run Friday through Sunday. (Click here for the official schedule.)
The weekend is a lot like if Southborough packed Summer Nights and Heritage Day weekend into one long weekend – and tagged on a slew of additional fundraisers and community events.
I don’t cover festivals in most communities outside our town. But our combined school district (and some sports teams) with their strong ties to Applefest make this festival an exception. For instance, the marching band and robotics team generally participate in the parade. So does the Jr. T-Hawks program.
Other school ties are seen through special fundraising events, some of which support Algonquin or scholarships for its students.
ARHS organizations also frequently make use of booths at the street fair to raise funds. (Like T-Hawk cheerleaders to the right, captured on Facebook at a past year’s event.)
And the Algonquin school grounds is the site of a big Saturday family festival with a BBQ, activities, and live music.*
For details on this year’s festivities, visit the Applefest website.
(Reminder, Southborough’s Heritage Day is coming up on Monday, October 14th with the Pumpkin Stroll the day before.)
*This year, due to the EEE threat, there won’t be the usual celebration fireworks.
