The Heritage Chorale is returning to Southborough to perform their fall concert: Midnight to Sunrise. The choral group promotes:
A musical treat for an autumn afternoon, contrasting delights, including French Baroque composer Charpentier’s Midnight Mass for Christmas and contemporary Norwegian composer Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass.
The concert will be held on Sunday, November 24th at St. Mark’s School.
The Heritage Chorale, conducted by “renowned Boston-area music director John Finney” describes itself as:
a nonprofit organization of accomplished singers dedicated to performing high quality choral music. We are committed to standards of excellence in our rehearsals and performances, and seek to inspire in ourselves and our Metrowest audience a greater love of music and community.
The website describes the fall concert:
This 83rd concert season begins with a strikingly different twosome: the Midnight Mass by the Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier and the Sunrise Mass by the contemporary Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. The first, based almost entirely on French Christmas carol melodies (noëls), is joyous with a dance-like quality. The second features a double-chorus and string orchestra that create wondrous other-worldly choral and orchestral sounds.
On Facebook, the group shared more color on the two contrasting compositions:
