Many Southborough residents are active members of other regional choruses. Three of those groups asked me to share news on their concerts this weekend and/or next: Northboro Area Community Chorus, Westborough Community Chorus, and Assabet Valley Mastersingers.
I’ve already shared that the annual Handel’s Messiah Concert in town is taking place this Sunday. Here are the details on that and the others:
Westborough Community Chorus
Holly Days at Home
Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 at 8:00 pm; Sunday, December 8 at 2:00 pm
Sarah Gibbons Middle School, 20 Fisher Street, Westborough
The 75 member chorus will perform its 47th Annual Christmas Holiday Show.
The show program will include many familiar Christmas songs directed by new chorus director Kelly Hodge. There will be singing, dancing and a “North Pole” skit supported by colorful backdrops. Children in the audience are invited by elves to come to the stage and sing a tune with Santa.
Advance tickets may be purchased from any chorus member or at the door. Admission is $10 per child and $12 per adult.
Northboro Area Community Chorus
Sounds of the Season
Sunday, December 8th, 3:00 – 5:00 pm
Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough
The chorus will present its 48th Annual Christmas Concert under the creative direction of Elinor A. Armsby, accompanied by talented pianist, Mark Bartlett.
The program includes many holiday favorites celebrating the “Sounds of the Season”, such as The Little Drummer Boy, Carol of the Bells, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Maoz Tsur, all designed to get you into the holiday spirit! You may even get a glimpse of Santa during the show or find a cute gift or yummy treat for that special someone! The St. Mary’s Children’s Choir of Shrewsbury will be making a guest appearance during the concert, which will be a treat for all to enjoy! Admission is $5 each at the door.
The Messiah Community Chorus
Handel’s Messiah
Sunday, December 8th at 3:30 pm
Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common Street, Southborough
The chorus will perform its 48th annual concert of traditional selections from Handel’s Messiah. The performance is complete with chorus, orchestra and soloists. A portion of proceeds will support the Southborough Food Pantry. For pricing and details, see dedicated post.
Assabet Valley Mastersingers
Messiah Sing
Sunday, December 15th at 3:30 pm
First Church Congregational, 37 High Street in Marlborough
The chorus will perform the Christmas portion of Handel’s oratorio in addition to the “Hallelujah Chorus” with audience participation.
Those in attendance will be invited to join with members of the chorus, sitting in sections according to voice part. Generally all participants greatly enjoy this beloved tradition of the Christmas season. Accomplished organist Brett Maguire will provide accompaniment, and vocal soloists will be soprano Emily Bieber; mezzo Britt Brown; tenor Christopher Eaglin; and baritone Dave Bonneau. Robert P. Eaton, Artistic Director of the Assabet Valley Mastersingers will direct the ensemble.
Some scores are available to share, although participants are urged to bring their own, if possible. Those people who would prefer to listen are also welcome.
A suggested donation of $10 is desired. Guests will be invited to share refreshments following the “sing.” For further information call (978) 562-9838 or search www.AVMsingers.org.
