The sundown-to-sundown National Day of Unplugging is next week. Southborough Youth and Family Services is asking our community to participate.
The event is Friday, March 6th through Saturday, March 7th.
Power down your devices and reconnect with your world. Play board games, make dinner plans with friends, do arts and crafts, make time to play outside!
I have embraced SYFS’ past Unplugged initiatives to take an evening off. But I have to admit, I’m getting twitchy thinking about a whole day. I suppose that’s a sign that I need it!
The Town agency has started publicly posting more ideas for what we can do with our screenless time. (Yes, they acknowledge the irony that it’s through Twitter and Facebook!)
Here is what they’ve posted to date. (I plan to update the post later next week with more of their ideas):
I touched base with the Library, and they will be supporting the initiative. That Saturday, you can enjoy a game day at the Library. Staff will be putting out some of the Library’s board games so patrons can drop-in and play that day.
If you don’t want to hang out at the Library, they have plenty of resources you can check out:
- Discount museum and park passes
- Books for reading alone or aloud
- Circulating jigsaw puzzles (Southborough offers both simple 100 piece sets and challenging 1,000 piece sets; or plan ahead and use interlibrary loan to check out a 300, 500, or 750 , ot 2,000 piece puzzle)
- How-to books to help you tackle a new craft, project, or hobby
- Card game instruction books to learn new multi-player or solitaire games
