A week from Saturday, Chestnut Hill Farm will host a free Seed Saving Workshop. Participants are encouraged to “Take Some, Donate Some”. Donated seeds will be contributed to the Southborough Library for the next round of their popular Seed Exchange program.
The Trustees of Reservations promotes that it’s about more than what is collected. It’s also an experience and a learning opportunity:
There are so many reasons to save seeds! The act of seed saving is an exercise in mindfulness and helps bring us closer to nature. Participate in this ritual with us: Join CHF staff to harvest seeds from the farm’s flowers and herbs for yourself and for the community!
At this free community event we will teach you how to harvest seeds from various flowers and herbs, such as zinnias, snapdragons, and dill. The goal is to stock the Southborough Library Seed Exchange with an abundant amount of seeds for the community. And we’ll send you home with a stash of seeds for your own 2021 garden!
Under safety protocols, the event requires pre-registration with timed tickets. The 45 minute workshops will take place on Saturday, October 24th at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm.
The Trustees will provide packets for collecting seeds to be donated. For taking seeds home, attendees are asked to bring some brown paper bags and their own Sharpies for labeling them.
The outdoor event was originally scheduled for tomorrow, but pushed back due to forecast rain. If next week’s program has to be cancelled or postponed due to the weather, registered attendees will be notified by email.
