The head of Southborough’s Technology Department submitted his resignation. A posting to fill the position of IT Manager has been posted to the Town’s website.
Tom Laflamme submitted his letter of resignation last week, with a planned exit date of November 27th. The timing seems less than ideal, given that so much of the Town’s public interactions rely on remote technology.
In the spring, Town Administrator Mark Purple sought approval to hire a full time Tech Specialist to support LaFlamme. He explained that there is no backup or redundancy plan for IT Director Tom Laflamme. Given the increased need for technology and his belief that they could be going in and out of remote working for a while, he pushed for a full time employee or at least two part time people. Selectmen pushing to keep staff increases to a minimum only approved one part time position for 19.5 hours.
In September, Assistant Town Administrator Vanessa Hale told selectmen that they hadn’t been having luck filling the part time position. Library’s IT Associate Chris McGinn was moved over to the IT department to help, but would only be providing 8 hours of after hours assistance. That still left an 11.5 hour part time slot to fill.
In LaFlamme’s resignation letter dated October 28th, he assured Purple:
To ease the transition after my departure, I am happy to assist you with any training tasks during my final weeks on the job. I intend to leave thorough instructions and up-to-date records for my replacement. Additionally, I will be available to provide reasonable assistance after my departure.
Last night, Purple told selectmen that Laflamme was taking a job much closer to to home. He noted that Laflamme was Southborough’s first IT Manager. Below is the posting to fill the role.
While I’m sharing the news of that job opportunity with readers, I’m also updating you on the school district’s other postings since my last update.
