This fall, the Southborough Senior Center is hosting a Alternative Medicine Series. Three sessions feature talks on marijuana, reike, reflexology, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. The first talk is coming up this Monday.

It is always beneficial to have an awareness of what treatment modalities exist in addition to traditional medicine.
Sessions will be held on Monday afternoons, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the Senior Center. While free to attend, each session is limited to 25 people. Chamberlin asked me to clarify that the program is open to all ages regardless of which Town you live in.

October 4th – Reiki and Reflexology Discussion
Julie Costello, Reiki Master will discuss: What is Reiki? Learn about the history of Reiki and who can benefit from it. Lourdes Centeno, will join us to demonstrate the manual technique of Reflexology as well as what types of medical problems can be addressed and improved with Reflexology.
October 18th– Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Presentation
Julie Dalbec owner of Marlborough Wellness Center asks “Have you been wondering what acupuncture and herbal medicine is about and how it works? Come join us as Julie Dalbec explains the basics, answers questions, and does a hands – on experience.
In addition, the Southborough Senior Center offers regular Health Clinic hours for seniors to consult with Nurse Chamberlin. Those are Monday and Friday from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm. According to the Senior Center’s website, services include:
- Wellness checks
- Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar screening
- Nursing assessment of medical concerns or questions
- Answering questions about medications
- Reviewing laboratory and other diagnostic tests with clients
- Referrals to physicians and other allied medical providers
- Assisting with mail order pharmacy and other prescription needs
- Durable medical (wheelchairs, canes ,walkers shower chairs) assistance through our loan program
- Acting as a patient advocate with physicians, other health care team members, and insurance companies
- Educational materials and health related programs
