The Soccer Challenge is back at Heritage Day for the 5th year.

The Southborough chapter of The Knights of Columbus will will host the free competition from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Monday, October 11th.

There are some changes for this fall’s event. Winners won’t be able to take part in regional or state-wide competitions. The good news is that means organizers can open up the local competition to a wider range of participants.

Anyone aged 6-16 is welcome to shoot penalty shots on St. Mark’s field.

KoC Soccer Challenge flyerAs usual, players are allowed to take shots at the goal from the penalty line (12 yards from the goal).

This time, the number of shots allowed will be fewer than in the past. (They are planning to allow 10 shots per player, but that may be reduced if the line gets too long.)

The goal is divided into scoring zones. The upper corners of the goal are designated as 20 point zones. The lower corners are 10 point zones and the central region is a five point zone.

High scorers* will receive a medal on the spot. A leader board will track and display top player’s scores.

*For players allowed 10 shots, 80+ points will earn a medal. If the number of shots allowed needs to be reduced, that number will likely be adjusted.
