[The Boston Marathon always includes a pack of runners from our town. While this year, the number allowed on the course is limited, Southborough still has a strong showing.
Between now and Monday, I’m featuring stories of residents donning bibs for a cause.]
This Monday, ten Boston Marathon runners will be raising funds in the memory of Lingzi Lu. Lu was one of the victims of the 2013 Marathon Bombing. A foundation setup in her name seeks to honor her example as someone “who spread love and compassion while fearlessly following her dreams”.
Among the runners on the team is Southborough’s Zhisong Ji.
On her fundraising page, Ji writes that it’s her first marathon and running it on behalf of the foundation makes it sweeter. She explains her support for the charity:
The Lingzi Foundation has supported organizations that help foster relationships within our communities by partnering with organizations that focus on community, education and family. During AAPI heritage month Lingzi Foundation partnered with Read Boston (early literacy program), this was a great opportunity to share stories about diversity with the youth in the local communities and teach them to embrace culture differences.
As a mother of two children, since 2009 I have volunteered to teach Chinese at Century Chinese Language School in Framingham, subsequently I served as the Principal from 2014-2018. As a principal and a teacher, not only I taught students Chinese language, also encouraged them to serve local communities, and to build the bridge among different cultures. . .
Please donate whatever amount you can afford. No amount is too small (where $25 would be plenty). Thank you. If your company or organization has a donation match program, please consider to take full advantage of it for this wonderful cause.
