Saturday, October 23rd is turning into more of a Halloween celebration than the holiday itself.
That day Southborough Recreation is hosting two outdoor Halloween celebrations for kids – a “Trunk or Treat” and an outdoor movie night.
Those festivities directly follow the Halloween costume parade, party and contest hosted by Southborough Firefighters Association. (Click here for those details.) And that event follows Fay School’s celebration of Halloween at their Farmer’s Market that morning.
The Fay event will include the Southborough Library’s Halloween parade, storytime, and other fun activities. (Stay tuned for more on that.)
Southborough Rec’s events replace the indoor Town party traditionally hosted at Finn School with outdoor fun. To make it convenient for families enjoying the SFA parade and party that day, they will host it at Woodward School.
Rec’s event begins with a Trunk or Treat at 4:30 pm.
If, like me, you were unfamiliar with the concept. . . Kids will be invited to trick or treat at an array of cars* lined up with trunks open, decorated in Halloween spirit. (Think of them as a cross between parade floats and a Halloween lawn display. I included an example of a kit sold by Oriental Trading Company to the right.)
From 6:00 until a little after 7:30 pm, Rec will screen Monster’s Inc. on an outdoor movie screen on the field by the parking lot. The public is invited to bring blankets and/or chairs to camp out and enjoy the film.
Don’t worry, they aren’t expecting you to make it through all of that fun, fueled only by candy. There will also be two food trucks selling dinner – Trolley Dogs and No Coast Kitchen.
All of these events are free to the public, no registration required.
*Participating cars will be pre-selected by Rec. They are expecting about 10-15, representing Town departments and local business partners. Each will have its own theme.
