Updated (12/8/21 3:09 pm): The Library announced that it will reopen on Thursday, December 9th.
Yesterday, I posted that the Southborough Library was closed for the day due to a Covid contact. Last night, an email from the Library Director updated that it will also be closed today, Wednesday, December 8th. When it will reopen (possibly as soon as tomorrow) is still to be determined.
For the safety of staff, this isn’t a return to the days of curbside pickup.
As I noted yesterday, the Library does still offer online services. I detailed most of those last year here. They includes ebooks and digital audio books, and so much more. Since then, they also added Consumer Reports.
For those with children, you can also check out their non-digital, outdoor offering – the Storywalk.
As for the closure and reopening, here is more detail from the message:
Due to HIPAA we do not discuss individual COVID-19 cases and COVID-19 exposures but an investigation has been completed by the Southborough Board of Health. If you have not been contacted already by the Southborough Library or the Southborough Board of Health staff then you are not a close contact of a COVID-19 case. Out of an abundance of caution, the library is temporarily closed to consider and perform any other mitigation strategies to prevent COVID-19 cases going forward.
Library material on hold will be kept for additional time during the building closure. Curbside Pickup Service and non-online Museum Passes have been temporarily suspended. It is possible that the library may have to close for a longer period of time. If the library can reopen safely on Thursday, December 9, then we will send out notices to our email subscribers, on our social media outlets, and on MySouthborough. We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the library’s many electronic resources.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. As always, my hope is to keep everyone as healthy and safe as possible. Everyone at the library hopes to be back to serving the community as soon as we possibly can.
