SYFS: Fuel Assistance, Thanks for giving, Programs on Listening and Communication, and more

Southborough Youth and Family Services asked me to let readers know about news in their December newsletter. I’m pointing out a few highlights, and pointing you to the newsletter for more details.

Financial Support

SYFS shared its thanked supporters of its annual holiday giving program – renamed Winter Wishes this year:

Eagle Leasing Company
Phaneuf Concrete Cutting
Southborough Village Preschool
Woodward Elementary School
Neary Elementary School
Trottier Middle School
Central Office for the NSboro Schools

Town of Southborough employees
Southborough Community Fund
Southborough Trust Fund
Rotary Club of Southborough
St. Anne’s Parish
Kindergroup
and all of our individual donors!

The program supported 36 families/103 residents in time for the holiday season.

Speaking of families needing extra support this winter, the agency is reminding the public about the Fuel Assistance Program:

This program affords eligible households with financial assistance directly to their heating vendor. Eligibility is based on gross annual income and family size. SYFS is an intake site for new fuel assistance applicants, a benefit that is issued through South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC). If you are a renewing fuel assistance applicant, you can go directly to SMOC.

Workshops

The newsletter also promotes two programs they will be offering in the new year, focusing on Communications in Relationships.

Listen With L.O.V.E. workshop on “The Art of Communication in Relationships” will be held on Wednesday, January 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm with an encore planned for the morning of Saturday, January 22nd.

As a compliment to the workshop, they will also offer “communication skills and discussion groups to take deeper look at some of the skills presented in the workshop and apply them in real life.” Lunch groups will be held weekly on Tuesdays at noon starting January 18th and evening groups biweekly on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm starting January 19th.

As for SYFS’ Suicide prevention training workshops, those are proving to be popular. The agency informed me that the next several dates posted are full for the QPR sessions, but they are taking names for waitlists.
