[Highlights from last week’s competitions and what’s on tap this week in high school sports.]
Last week, five Algonquin varsity teams won their first official games of the season.
One of them was Boys Ice Hockey, who beat Hudson 5-1. (Click here for the Telegram’s Scoreboard recap and here for game photos by Owen Jones Photography.)
This Wednesday, the Boys will play Westborough in the first of the annual 4-team Boroughs Cup games. Depending on the outcome of that night’s game, they will face off against Marlborough or Wachusett on Saturday night. They’ll look to recapture the magic of 2018 when they last took home the cup. (Last year, the teams weren’t able to participate in the tourney. The prior year, ARHS lost both games.)

- Boys Swimming/Diving beat Bromfield 135-34
- Girls Basketball beat Shepherd Hill Regional High School 56-45
- Boys Basketball beat Shepherd Hill 69-68
- Girls Ice Hockey beat Lincoln-Sudbury 8-0
And below are the two losses:
- Wrestling to St. John’s 66-12
- Girls Swimming/Diving lost to Bromfield 16-139
This is the first week that Gymnastics will compete. They’ll hit Groton-Dunstable’s mats on Tuesday night. The Community Advocate interviewed the team as it prepares for the first full season since competitions shut down in 2020. That winter, they had won the state championships but were prevented from heading to New England Championships. You can read the CA’s article here.
