Our hands-on workshops, designed for children ages 6-12, are a great way to learn more about engineering, creativity, and design. All workshops are taught by Fay faculty on the Fay School campus in Southborough.
Programs take place on Saturday, April 9th from 10:00 am – noon. The following topics are offered, each limited to 10 students:
STEM Nature Challenge: Designing Is For The Birds
Ages 6-9
Spring is here, and the birds are hard at work! Join us for some bird-related engineering and design challenges as we read P.D. Eastman’s The Best Nest and put our design thinking skills to work to design and build birds’ nests and bird feeders. Through this process, we’ll learn about some of the amazing ways that animals in nature put design principles into practice. We’ll work with a range of tools and art supplies to create projects that you’ll take home after a morning of creativity and fun!
Fairy Tale STEM: The Humpty Dumpty Challenge
Ages 9-12
Your mission: Protect Humpty Dumpty after he has a great fall! After reading Dan Santat’s picture book After the Fall, students will use recycled materials to create a parachute that will protect Humpty Dumpty so that he doesn’t crack when he falls. Bring your creativity and excitement as we build, test, and rebuild our parachutes to protect our egg-cellent pal!
Earth Day STEM: Build A Truffala Tree
Ages 6-9
With Earth Day coming up, it’s the perfect time to use Dr. Seuss’ classic The Lorax as inspiration for a creativity and design challenge! After reading the book together, children will try to design the tallest and sturdiest Truffala tree. Children will also design their own take-home resuable bags. Let’s protect the trees!
