While Algonquin athletes are now officially Titans, many still sport uniforms with the old Tomahawks symbol and/or name.
To ease the financial strain of changing mascots, the district opted for a transition plan to phase out the “mascot”. That means instead of replacing all of the school uniforms this year, symbol and naming changes will happen over a number of years.
Members of Algonquin’s Track and Field team are looking to raise funds to expedite their rebranding. Organizers of a special “Fund Run” event on April 23rd promote:
ARHS – Track and Field is a beautiful opportunity for students to experience a competitive and friendly environment to compete against other schools. Our uniforms represent our spirit and commitment to Algonquin. They are the opening statement to other schools that we have a passion for running and are serious about this sport.
The team is seeking to raise $10,000. $2,000 is for equipment and the other $8,000 to cover uniforms for the Boys and Girls teams. The uniforms will also be used by Indoor Track teams during the winter season.
The fundraiser takes place on Saturday, April 23rd from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Participants can choose to take part in a run or a walk:
- 5K race over the rock-covered trails paid for by the Algonquin Cross Country team ($15 per runner)
- 1 mile scenic walk through the trails behind Algonquin ($10 per walker)
Anyone who isn’t up to either is still welcome to come on out in support and cheer on the runners. Food and drink will be sold at the concession stand, as will raffle tickets.

The afternoon prior to the event, the team is holding a Meet and Greet. The event, geared mainly for middle school students, is open to everyone. It is “organized by dedicated student-athletes who have an absolute passion for running.”
The Meet and Greet is Friday, April 22nd from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. The free event offers more of a workout than the name suggests:
This event is open to anyone who wishes to understand what it is like to be a Track and Field Athlete but is targeted towards the Middle School grade level to give them a feel for High School Sports. Everyone will be instructed and have the opportunity to meet State and Regional champions and the fantastic coaching staff at ARHS.
We ask that you dress appropriately for the weather and understand that you will be working out. We will have an introductory meeting to discuss what events you can try during the day and the student volunteers to assist you. After that, we will have warm-ups and stretching on the Track Field.
This event is open to all ages, and we encourage parents and adults to participate, as this is a unique opportunity to see this sport firsthand.
