The Southborough Library’s annual Candidates Night is tomorrow evening, Wednesday, April 27.
There is a last minute addition to the program.
For the first time, the event will include the Northborough candidates vying to represent their town on the Regional School Committee. (Though, I always find it puzzling, Southborough voters get to weigh in on that race.) The candidates are incumbent Joan Frank and William Barlow Redfern.
As I’ve previously posted, the moderated Q&A will also include the candidates for Planning Board, and the uncontested candidates for the Select Board.
This will be the first Q&A of candidates since 2019. (Last year, the Library coordinated a virtual Candidates’ Night, but that just featured candidates’ recorded speeches.)
Per tradition, the event begins with a Meet & Greet with all candidates on the ballot this May.

The Trustees of the Southborough Library will hold their annual “Candidates’ Night” at the Southborough Library, 25 Main Street, Southborough on Wednesday evening, April 27, 2022. This event gives Southborough voters a chance to meet the candidates, ask questions and get answers. All candidates running for election or re-election in the Annual Town Election have been invited.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a “Meet & Greet” session for the public and all candidates for office. The moderated program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. with statements and a “Q&A” session with candidates for the Select Board and candidates in the contested race for Planning Board. Candidates in uncontested races will be recognized and are encouraged to attend. Former Library Trustee and Event Organizer Betsy Rosenbloom will serve as Moderator. Sandwiches and sweets will be available.
The Annual Town Election is Tuesday, May 10, 2022. “Candidates’ Night” is an important civic program, part of the Library’s mission to be “the center for life-long learning at the crossroads of our community.” Handicap access is available through the elevator at the lower level entrance at the corner of Main Street/Route 30 and Route 85.
Alan Belniak and Deborah DeMuria will be making their cases for why you should elect them to the Planning Board. They are vying for the seat being vacated by Don Morris after over 40 years. Running for his seat are. Each already submitted a statement for blog readers that you can find here.
Also included will be Sam Stivers who is running for re-election to the Select Board, and Kathy Cook is running for the seat being vacated by Select Board member Marty Healey. Since Michael Weishan withdrew from running this spring, those candidates are unopposed.
