Yesterday, I listed dates for the many upcoming Christmas and winter holiday celebrations and festivities in (or related to) Southborough. Now it’s time to begin sharing more details on them, starting with the biggest event for many families with young children — Santa Day.
[Editor’s Note: The helicopter was cancelled due to weather. Don’t worry, Santa is still coming – just by fire truck. It won’t be the first time he arrived in the rain. (See Kindergroup’s contributed photo from 2014.) The other details from the event remain the same as described below.]
Thanks to Southborough Kindergroup, Santa Claus will be making his annual pre-Christmas trip to Southborough on the first Saturday in December. Weather permitting, he’ll be flying in by helicopter again.
(As I always explained to the young ones – reindeer can only fly on Christmas Eve, and the North Pole is quite a long trip by land. It just makes sense.)
The helicopter is scheduled to land on the St. Mark’s field at the corner of Routes 30 and 85 on December 3rd at noon. The jolly old elf will emerge to greet the crowd buzzing with excitement. After a few minutes, he’ll work his way through to cross the street to the Community House.
Inside is where he’ll fulfill his real purpose — to hear from children what they want for Christmas (while grownups snap pictures and hope their kids’ wishes are reasonable).
After posing, kids can get their faces painted. (I confirmed the critical timing of that activity!)
That’s just one of the fun details that Kindergroup shared about Santa Day 2022. Organizers have a lot in store for the kiddies at the Community House this year.
While waiting in line to see Santa, families can enjoy:
- Story time with Mrs. Claus
- Character appearances (including the popular snowman Olaf)
- Cookies and hot chocolate
- Arts and crafts
The Community House event runs until 3:00 pm.
It’s one of many holiday related events taking place in Southborough that day and over the coming weeks. For the full list, click here.
Updated (11/30/22 11:27 am): I had promised to follow up on Kindergroup’s attempt to secure a replacement for the food truck that cancelled. Unfortunately, they couldn’t book one.
As mentioned above, there will be free cookies and hot chocolate. For those looking to grab lunch before or after visiting Santa, you can swing by the St. Mark’s Church’s Christmas Bazaar or the annual Kids Shop run by the Boys Scouts at St. Anne’s Church. (And for anyone who saw on Facebook that there will be a raffle at Santa Day — I also confirmed that’s not part of this year’s activities.)
Updated (12/2/22 4:56 pm): I forgot to note the annual back up plan. If weather prevents the helicopter from landing, he will arrive by fire truck
Updated (12/3/22 8:06 am): Kindergroup posted that the helicopter was cancelled due to the forecast high wind gusts.
