Emily Elizabeth “Betty” Morrison, 93 years old, of Southborough, passed away on December 27, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on November 29, 1929, in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Elton and Gertrude (Chapman) Rushton. While working in Moncton, New Brunswick for Singer Sewing, as a seamstress, she met her loving husband, Roderick “Rod” who was working as a sewing machine salesman. They, along with their young son Stephen, moved to Massachusetts in the 1950’s and grew their family to 8 children total. Betty was an incredible homemaker, cook, and baker of goodies. She always had homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls, or some other treat waiting for her children when they got home from school. She adored many family pets over the years especially her beloved dog “Loby”. She loved watching birds and wildlife. In later years, she and Rod travelled extensively in their motorhome throughout New England and up to visit relatives in Nova Scotia. Her favorite spots were anywhere near the ocean as she loved a walk on the beach. In the years following the death of her husband, she continued to travel with her children.
Betty had a fun-loving way of sharing the things that brought her joy in life with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of music, nature, Red Sox, baking, and sewing were just some of the things she imprinted in their memories. She was also their biggest fan and took great interest in whatever they were doing in life.
Betty was pre-deceased by her husband Roderick, and her son Stephen Morrison. She is survived by her children Elaine Binder and her husband Bill of Claremont, New Hampshire; her son Rod Morrison and his wife Diana of Bristol, Maine; her daughter Judy Sarkisian and her husband David of Upton; her son Dan Morrison and daughter Nancy Falconi of Southborough; and her daughters Paula Poole and Tricia Gunning of Westborough. She is survived as well, by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 11:00am at St. Matthew Church, 26 Highland St., Southborough, MA 01772. Burial will follow in Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Rd., Southborough.
