An upcoming exhibit at Hopkinton Center of the Arts will feature works focused on Women’s Empowerment by two female artists. One is Southborough’s Chelsea Steele (formerly Bradway).
Steele informed me that the show “Break Away” will include her photos of over 200 women, including many that Southborough residents will recognize as friends and neighbors.
Timed for International Women’s Month, the exhibit will be on display in the Lotvin Family Gallery from March 8th to April 20th.
HCA is holding a special free reception on Friday, March 10th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. (No registration is required.) HCA’s website describes the exhibit as featuring “two formidable female artists”. The other artist is Bobbi Gibb, “first woman ever to run and complete the Boston Marathon”.
In describing Steele’s body of work, they quote her as explaining:
“By creating a safe place for females to feel empowered, beautiful, strong, and comfortable in their own skin, a wondrous tapestry was born.” Steele continues, “I want to show the audience that all women are a force to be reckoned with, regardless of age, ethnicity, background, sexual orientation, social status, or political views”.
Steele gave me permission to share a few of the wide range of photos:
Gibb’s works will include:
a broad selection of her bronze figurines of the human body in motion, impressionistic paintings, and abstract paintings representing the patterns within her that reflect the patterns of nature and the universe. The exhibit will also include historical photographs and articles about Bobbi and her barrier-breaking 1966 run.
HCA is located at 98 Hayden Rowe St, Hopkinton. For more details, click here.
