Sign up for Childcare at Town Meeting Saturday

Rec will offer free babysitting for attendees' kids (ages 4+ and potty trained) if you sign up while there is still capacity.

Southborough Recreation will provide free Childcare for the first 4 hour session of Annual Town Meeting, this Saturday, March 25th. There are some restrictions including pre-registration with a limited capacity.

The babysitting offer is for the children of Annual Town Meeting attendees. It only applies to children ages 4+ who are potty trained. It is for the afternoon session, 1:00 – 5:00 pm. (It won’t be offered for the 7:00 – 11:00 pm shift.)

Below are more details from the registration page:

Childcare will be located in the Trottier Gymnasium. All registered participants must be checked in by a parent of guardian. Upon pick up, ID will be required to match the names that are provided for authorized pick up through your registration.

Children must be at least 4 years old, and potty trained, no exceptions.

Please send your child with a peanut free snack and water bottle. Pizza will be provided at 4:00pm.

Recreation Staff and volunteers will offer games and activities for your child. If the weather allows it, we will plan on utilizing the neighboring playground at Neary and fields at Trottier.

This is limited to the first 40 registrants.

Making it easier for parents to attend Annual Town Meeting has long been a goal of the Recreation Commission. It is the reason that the Commission (successfully) made the push in 2018 for future Annual Town Meeting to be held by default on the last Saturday in March. (It’s perceived as easier for many parents than weeknights. And it’s between youth and school sports seasons.)

After just a year on the new schedule, the safety concerns related to the pandemic overrode the default schedule in 2020-2022. Now the Town is back on track (though also still planning for a Special Town Meeting in the fall).
