Summer Camp Choices (Updated – Again)

Sports clinics, specialty camps, and day camps in Southborough (or through our schools)

For parents who haven’t yet signed kids up for camp this summer, I’m compiling the options in Southborough or at our high schools this summer. It’s a long list.

I’ll start of with the stand-alone options offered only 1-2 times, followed by the summer-long offerings. (Although, Southborough Rec’s summer long camp is already booked up for much of the summer.) 

Specialty Camps & Clinics

These run the gamut with specialty sports (track, cheer, lacrosse, basketball, soccer and even fencing). They also include obstacle courses, chess, musical theater, career discovery, and English immersion. I’m sorting them by the dates they are offered. (Note: Some have registration deadlines.)

“Campers take part in throwing, jumping, running and hurdling activities. On the final evening, they’ll compete in a track meet with an awards ceremony and demonstration by high school athletes.” $150 per child (with discounts for siblings and a $420 family max). (Click here)

Monday, June 26th – Thursday the 29th (9:30 am – 12:30 pm)
Algonquin Regional High School gym, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough

Participants will “Learn new cheers, dances and stunts”. On the final day, campers will “have a chance to show off what you’ve learned to family and friends”. $125 per camper with a discount for siblings. (Click here)

Bill Pilat’s The Goalie School (Lacrosse)
10-18 year olds (split by gender)
Wednesday, June 21 – Friday, the 23rd (9:00 am – 8:00 pm, extended and overnight options)
St. Mark’s School, 25 Marlboro Rd

Coach Pilat and his staff offer intense instruction and drills to improve performance of the Lacrosse goaltender. Includes strength and agility coaching, one on one instruction and evaluation, and “fun and exciting” games. $735. (Click either Boys or Girls)

Coach ID’s Summer Hoops Clinic Camp

Monday, June 28th – Friday the 30th (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)
Fayville Park basketball court, Central St

GTT (Game Time Training) which runs Southborough’s Youth, PreK, and RAP basketball programs will offer this clinic with contests, scrimmages and skills development. $180. (Click here)

Fay English ImmersionFaySummer’s English Immersion Program
10-15 year olds
4-week overnight session, July 9th – August 4th
Fay School, 48 Main Street for ages 10-15

The concentrated program is for students to improve their English skills. The program combines academics, cultural interactions, and summer camp activities. Students take key academic classes each morning, with electives and camp activities scheduled in the afternoons and evening homework. Students have access to the school’s pools, athletic fields, rock climbing wall, ropes course, etc. $8,000. (Click here)

Basketball Skills Summer Clinics (session 2 of 3)

Algonquin Regional High School gym

Program to improve young player’s fundamentals “from the novice athlete to the aspiring pro. . . We use basketball to help kids build character, promote good sportsmanship, and develop leadership skills.” Coached by ARHS Varsity Boys Coach. $120. 3-14 year olds
Monday, July 10th – Friday the 14th (hours vary)

Technical skills instruction combined with fun games and activities. Players are split into camps by ages with overlapping options. 3-5 year old can sign up for 9:00 – 9:45 am classes for $110. 5-14 year olds can sign up for half day (9:00 am – noon) camps for $180. And 7-14 year olds can choose a full day (9:00 am – 3:00 pm) camp for $280. (Click here)

Basketball Weekly Program

Melican Middle School – Outdoor basketball courts

Algonquin basketball players are among the coaching staff on this program. The class combines drills and skill building with half and full court games with friends. Viking’s Ninja Warrior camp (session 1 of 2)
6-12 year olds
Monday, July 17th – Friday the 21st (9:00 am – 3:00 pm)

Kids will run obstacle courses geared to challenge agility, strength and balance, “leaping from the ascending plyo boxes bounding between quintuple steps and even scaling the wall located in our ENORMOUS obstacle bounce house!” $280. (Click here)

A Step Ahead (ASA) Basketball Camp 
7-16 year olds
Monday, July 17th – Friday the 21st (hours vary)

Coach Chris Foley and staff work with players seeking “to improve their game and basketball IQ”. Covers fundamentals, individual development, and team play. 7-8 year olds can sign up for half day (9:00 am – noon) camps for $275. Full day camp is 9:00 am – 3:00 pm for $475. (Click here)

Kids will be cast in, have fun rehearsing, and ultimately perform in a 30 minute musical play with singing and dancing for an audience on the last day (at 1:00 pm). $425 includes guaranteed role, costume to wear, professional instruction, and a digital copy of the final production. (Click here)

Monday, August 7th – Thursday the 10th (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)
Algonquin Regional High School – softball fields

Each clinic will cover the fundamentals of: Pitching, Fielding and Hitting. Kids will be grouped by age/ability, and build skills through game play and 1:1 instruction. Coached by ARHS Varsity Boys Coach, and the Varsity Softball Coach and Assistant Softball Coach. $120. (Click here)

Algonquin Regional High School – Fields

Algonquin Regional’s Field Hockey Coach is running this clinic, which is open to all playing abilities for both new and experienced players. The clinic will focus on the basic fundamental skill sets, tactical play and small sided games. $150. (Click here) [Editor’s Note: I’ve been told this program is a fundraiser for the team.]

Coached by varsity players, kids will be introduced to the sport and learn skills, positions, strategy and teamwork while having fun. The fee starts at $150 per player with discounts for siblings. (Click here)

Summer Camps

Many of the younger campers’ weeks and a few of the teen (CITs) weeks are also booked but there are still available options for those ages. (The camps for 7-12 year olds are full.)

The pricing I include below is for the full day weeks. (Week 1 is discounted for each since there is no camp on July 3rd and 4th.)

Camp Fayville for ages 4-6
(8:30 am to either 12:00 pm or 4:00 pm)

The recreation camp offers half-day and full-day options for this age group. Activities include sports, arts and crafts, and special visitors/events. $195/$275. (Click here)

CIT (Counselor in Training) Program for ages 13-14
(8:30 am to either 12:00 pm or 4:00 pm)

CITs will learn behavior management, team-building, communication and activity leadership by helping counselors work with younger campers. $160. (Click here)

The Southborough Extended Day Program managed through a partnership of community parents and NSBORO schools allows flexibility to pick specific days plus extended morning and/or evening hours. It offers “enriching daily activities” and special themes, including annual favorites (color wars, carnival day and the Banana Olympics). $75 per day, sibling discounts. (Click here)

Note: Only camp option that allows children who aren’t potty trained.

Counselors-in-training assist staff while working with the younger campers, engaging them in games and activities. They also work with program staff on preparation and clean up the day’s camp activities.. $200 per week. (Click here)

Camp for 5-10 year olds

“An immersive, hands-on, farm and nature-based day camp experience. . . A wide variety of fun activities and adventures take place in the farm’s fields and raised garden beds, where campers learn to grow and harvest vegetables to make simple farm-fresh treats. Campers help care for sheep, goats, and rabbits, and learn from livestock and vegetable farmers.. . .

Campers hike the trails, discover life under a log, build shelters in the woods, listen for bull frogs, and learn from dragonflies and butterflies. Nature and farm-based science experiments, art projects, and games round out the experience.” $450 per Trustees member, $550 per non-member. (Click here)

Junior CIT (Counselor in Training) Program for 14 yr olds

Teens can enjoy the fun of summer camp while also serving as assistants to the counselors. Junior CITs may help with cleaning, art projects, gathering supplies, or other tasks as needed. $225 per Trustees member, $275 per non-member. (Click here)

CIT (Counselor in Training) Program for 15-17 yr olds

An volunteer internship opportunity for teens to help out at the farm’s camp. CITs can earn a weekly stipend in their 2nd year. (Click here to apply and ignore the “check back” message.)

Traditional camps for 4-14 years olds

Broken out by age groups, camp activities “take advantage of St. Mark’s state-of-the-art facilities and experienced leadership. All programs focus on developing now-and-future skills in a developmentally appropriate setting.” Campers have access to the outdoor facilities [including the ropes course] and air-conditioned classrooms when needed. Daily swimming (when weather cooperates) in their on campus pool.

The first week is a 1 week session. Most sessions are $790 for 2 full weeks, cafeteria lunch included. (Click here)

 Enrichment camps for 6-14 years olds

In addition to general camp activities (above) campers spend the first half of their day “delving into” an age appropriate interest or sports led by an instructor who specializes in the subject.

Traditional camp offering outdoor activities, including sports and games, archery, arts and crafts, the outdoor adventure challenge ropes course, and time in the pool. $1,100 for full-day or $735 for preK-K half day. (Click here)

A half day of specialty program on a variety of interests led by experienced adults, combined with a half day of traditional day camp activities (above). $1,200. (Click here)

Spotlight Camps for kids entering grades 3-9
1 week sessions (9:00 – 4:00 pm, extended options)

Campers select a “fully immersive” athletic or academic camp led by experienced coaches/teachers with a demonstrated expertise in their program area and making use of the school’s  athletic fields and air-conditioned classrooms. $550. (Click here)

Voyager Camp for kids entering grades 6-9
1 week sessions (9:00 – 4:00 pm, extended options)

Each day is a field trip. “Voyagers will visit area beaches, go to amusement parks, enjoy interactive activities with talented professionals, and more!” $600. (Click here)
