Local youth rugby earned gold and silver at the Summer Games

New England Rugby Club teams, including Southborough players, won medals at the Bay State Summer Games

This summer, the local youth program for Rugby boasted about their performance at a state-wide competition.

The New England Rugby Club (NERC) absorbed the Southborough Eagle league a few years back. This summer, a tackle team earned championship gold medals. Plus a flag team earned silver.

According to NERC, the summer season ended at the Massachusetts Bay State Games, “a state wide Olympic-style athletic competition encompassing 30 sports.” At the event:

The team includes Southborough’s Wyatt Smith, along with Josh Betancourt, Cameron Glennon, Will Johnson, Brennan Kane, Brody Lynch, Henry Marcotte, Brendan Payant, Daniel Quee, Oliver Raskin, John Wallace, and Tim Walsh.

The 5th-6th grade flag team earned silver medals at the event. That team includes Southborough players Matheiu Furlotte, Logan Gilmore, Peader Madden, and Alison Palleiko.

According to their announcement, NERC will be expanding this fall to include a girls program for middle school. Stay tuned for news on fall registration.
