Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Saturday, August 26, 2023

  • Goat Hangout and Ramble (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: (Formerly called “Hike with Goats”.) Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, click here.
  • Southborough Summer Nights (5:00 pm to after sunset) @ Neary School fields, 53 Parkerville Road: The annual end-of-summer festival. Live music, food trucks, inflatables and other free activities. For all the details, see my dedicated post.

Monday, August 28, 2023

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Drop-in Chess (12:00 – 4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Bring a friend, or make a new one, as attendees play the competitive classic game: Chess. Weekly program over the summer (except for July 24th.)

Tuesday, August 29, 2023

  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • ARHS Orientation @ Algonquin Regional High School: Freshman Activities 9:00 – 11:00 am, Orientation for new upperclassmen 9:00 – 11:00 am, Freshman Dance and Parent Meeting 6:00 – 8:00 pm
  • AVRTHS Freshman Orientation @ Assabet Valley Regional Technical School: Tuesday & Wednesday.
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Open Houses for Finn, Woodward and Neary schools (4:00 – 6:00 pm)
  • ARHS Fall Sports Night (6:30 – 7:30 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School: Players in fall sports and their parents are required to meet in the auditorium, followed by a quick breakout team meeting.

  • First day of public school: First day of school for students in NSBORO (Northborough-Southborough) K-12 schools and for AVRTHS (Assabet Valley)
  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Library Building Open Forum (7:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: The Library will host a forum to solicit public feedback on the library structure and services to help plan for the future. For details, see dedicated post.

Friday, September 1, 2023

  • AVRTHS No School: For students of Assabet Valley Regional Technical School only, this is a school holiday.
  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
