Classes don’t start until Thursday, but Algonquin’s fall sports pre-season is already underway.
As usual, Boys Golf will be the first team to enter real season competitions. They’ll tee off against Marlborough this Friday.
But the first varsity scrimmages already began on Friday and five more are scheduled through the weekend. ARHS Football has scrimmaged with Clinton, Boys Soccer with Hopkinton, and Girls Soccer with the team they lost last fall’s state championship to — Hingham.
Girls Soccer player Kylie Tomasetti, talked about their journey last fall in today’s Telegram. The article named the senior as among six Central MA stars “poised for big things this season”. Tomassetti was quoted reflecting on last year’s conference’s impact on the coming season:
“I think that experience will help us be more confident than we were last year because I think we kind of doubted ourselves a little bit. We were able to play with Hingham, and it was just an unlucky outcome, so I think that will help us this year in terms of us being more confident when we go up against our opponents.”
Tomasetti said she has been working hard on improving her game, improving her finishing skills and receiving passes on her back foot and getting the ball to the other side of the field.
Tomasetti hopes all that hard work can help factor into another successful season for her and her teammates. (read more)
This Wednesday is Fall Sports night at the school. (Players in fall sports and their parents are required to meet in the auditorium at 6:30 pm, followed by a quick breakout team meeting at 7:15 pm.)
