If you have little ones, you may be just trying to plan out your new routines for this fall. Whether you have a baby just beginning to show interest in songs, or preschoolers ready to sit through multiple stories and enjoy some crafts, or early readers who’d like a furry buddy to listen, the Southborough Library has something to offer.
Drop-in Programs
The following programs are drop-in, with no registration required. Which makes them great for families looking to keep their schedules flexible:
Kids Jam Music Program
Kids are invited to dance and sing along as Amy Kaufman sings a variety of traditional and popular children’s songs while playing her mountain dulcimer. Best for newborns through preschool age. No registration necessary. This event will be held in the Children’s Room. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. They take place Friday mornings, in the Children’s Room from 11:00 – 11:30 am.
The first session resumes September 15th and is scheduled through December 15th, except for Thanksgiving. (These generally take place over the public school year, but there are occasional gaps, so check the Library’s calendar in late December for next year’s schedule.)
Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library.
Baby and Toddler Story Time
This story time is for children age 0-2 years and their parents or caregivers. Each session includes puppets, stories, and music. They take place Thursday mornings, in the Children’s Room from 11:00 – 11:30 am.
The first session resumes September 14th and is scheduled through December 14th, except for Thanksgiving. (These generally take place over the public school year, but there are occasional gaps, so check the Library’s calendar in late December for next year’s schedule.)
Preschool Story Times
For children age 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme. They take place on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Children’s Room from 10:30 – 11:15 am.
The first session resumes September 11th and is scheduled through December 19th, except for the week of October 9th. (These generally take place over the public school year, but there are occasional gaps, so check the Library’s calendar in late December for next year’s schedule.)
Registration Required
The next two programs do require advance sign up. You can register by emailing kivers@southboroughma.com.
Preschool Yoga
For registered children age 3-6 years and their parents or caregivers. Certified kids’ yoga instructor Mandy Roberge will lead children through a series of yoga poses using games, music, and literary activities. (Yoga mats will be provided.)
Sessions are from 10:30 – 11:15 am on Wednesdays, September 13th, 20th, & 27th. The sessions will take place on the lawn if weather cooperates. (Otherwise, it will move to the Children’s Room.)
Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library.
Read to a Dog
This program is for ages 5+. Each participant registered for a time slot will get a chance to read a short book to Bear, a certified therapy dog.
The schedule posted for this fall is monthly on Saturdays, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on September 16th, October 14th, November 18th, and December 16th in the Children’s Room.
Updated (8/31/23 6:17 pm): I accidentally listed the Kids Jam time as the same time that Baby & Toddler Story Time takes place. The Children’s Room will be jamming on Friday mornings.
Updated (9/5/23 10:43 am): I changed the headline and first paragraph which originally covered only through preschoolers – which doesn’t include the Read to a Dog audience.
