It’s a busy week in Southborough. Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Saturday, September 16, 2023

  • Goat Hangout and Ramble (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: (Formerly called “Hike with Goats”.) Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, click here.
  • Read to a Dog (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Children’s Room: Register for kids ages 5+ to get a chance to read to a therapy dog. For details, see related post.
  • Sit & Knit (2:00 – 4:00pm) @ Southborough Library: Biweekly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
  • Yoga for grieving mothers (4:30 -6:00 pm) @ Theracopia Therapeautic Wellness Center: 54 Central Street: Free yoga, deep meditation and Reiki healing offered to mothers who have lost a child and their families For details, see dedicated post.

  • Pilgrim’s Kid’s Church kickoff (10:00 am) @ Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common St: To kickoff their weekly youth religious program, the church is hosting a whole group youth and family event for all ages with free fun including a bouncy house, face painting, food and games.   • Art on the Trails Closing Ceremony  (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Beals Preserve: The closing ceremony for this year’s outdoor art exhibit will feature the reading of poems inspired by the art installations. For more details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Ages 2-5 are invited for stories and a craft based on a weekly theme. No registration required. For details, see related post.

  • Books with Bunnies (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: An interactive story time for preschoolers (with a parent/caregiver) in the bunny garden with the farm’s Flemish Giant Rabbits hopping about. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Cancelled – Kids Pickling Program (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Indefinitely postponed due to illness. For 4-7 year olds with parents. Work together to chop, assemble, and season fresh refrigerator pickles with no heat needed. The program is free but registration is required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Outside Preschool Yoga (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library lawn: Registration is required for this free program for children age 3-6 with parents (and siblings). For details, see related post.
  • Blood Drive (12:00 – 6:30 pm) @ Southborough Library parking lot, 25 Main Street: Sign up for a time slot to donate blood through the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center bloodmobile. Each “successful” donor will receive a Target Gift Card as a thank you gift. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Canceled – Crafternoon: Fridge Magnets (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library main floor: Indefinitely postponed due to illness. Registration is required for this free craft program for kids ages 6+. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Farm Explorers (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, Adult supervision required. Pre-registration (and fee) required. (discount for younger siblings and free for siblings under 1.) Little farm explorers will become immersed in what life is like at Chestnut Hill. Each session has a different theme. (Offered weekly.)   • Trottier Early Release (10:50 am) @ Trottier Middle School: Students have a half day to allow for the Parent-Teacher Open House.
  • Baby/Toddler Storytime (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: A weekly program for ages 0-2 years with their parents/caregivers. Each session will include puppets and music. No registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Half-Day Craft (12:00 – 3:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: description. The library invites middle schoolers with an early dismissal today to drop into the teen room to do crafts, no registration required.
  • Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Weekly drop-in session to get help from a librarian or teen volunteer. Learn about the Library’s apps and databases, get guidance on your devices, and have tech questions answered.
  • The Inside Scoop (4:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Cordaville Hall, 9 Cordaville Road: The Rotary Club of Southborough and Economic Development Committee are putting on a networking event for members of the local business community. The first 100 attendees will get a free scoop of ice cream from the Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream Truck. For details, see dedicated post.
  • MBTA Communities Multi-Family Zoning Info Session (6:30 pm) @ Public Safety Building training room, 32 Cordaville Road: The Southborough Planning Board is inviting the community to learn about the multi-family by-right zoning coming to Southborough and provide feedback.   • Trottier Curriculum Night (6:30 – 8:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: Hear from teachers about what students will be studying this year/semester. Parents should look or an email with instructions for following Student Schedules.
  • ARHS Senior Parent College Night (6:30 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School auditorium: ARHS Guidance counselors will present to parents of seniors the “Nuts & Bolts” of applying to college.

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Rep. Donaghue Local Office Hours (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Westborough Public Library, 55 West Main Street, Westborough: State Rep. Kate Donaghue invites any constituent in her district (which covers Southborough) to meet with her.
  • Kids Jam (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Newborns through preschoolers are invited to dance and sing. No registration necessary. Sponsored by the Friends of the Southborough Library. For details, see related post.

  • Garden Tour & Plant Sale (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Beals Preserve:The Open Space Preservation Commission is offering guided tours of the Native Pollination Preservation Garden. Visitors can buy similar plants to encourage pollinators in their own yards and/or pitch in collecting seeds. For details, see dedicated post. (As of Thursday morning, this is planned to be rain or shine.)*
  • Middle School Book Club (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Monthly Book Club for grades 6-8 with discussion and activities. For details, see related post.
  • Autumn Equinox Forest Bathing (1:00 – 3:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: A certified Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide and experienced naturalist will lead this program for adults to experience the mindfulness of “forest bathing”. Pre-registration (and fee) required. For details, see related post.

*Updated (9/21/23 9:47 am): Our State Rep announced local office hours for this Friday. And organizers of the Garden Tour and Plant Sale updated that they are currently planning to hold the event rain or shine. But they acknowledge that may change if there are torrential/dangerous downpours. Right now they are keeping an eye on the storm forecast.
