The week in sports

Last week was a good one for most of Algonquin’s varsity teams.

Three meets in, Titans Boys and Girls Cross Country remain undefeated. The Girls beat Westborough 16-46 and the Boys 15-48.

Girls Volleyball added three more wins over Shrewsbury (3-2), Framingham (3-0) and Leominster (3-0). They are now at 8-1. [Note: The Framingham game wasn’t in the Telegram but results are on Framingham’s Athletics website.]

Field Hockey added 2 more wins over Wachusett (1-0) and Grafton (9-0). They now stand at 7-1-1.

Boys Golf beat Grafton and Wachusett last week, improving their record to 6-3.

Boys Soccer improved their record to 5-3-1 by beating Marlborough 3-2 and Westborough 3-0. Girls Soccer had a more uneven week (in keeping with their uneven season). They lost to Hopkinton 3-0, beat Westborough 2-0, then tied Concord-Carlisle 2-2. They now stand at 3-2-3.

Football was the only Gonk team continuing a losing streak. Friday, they lost their fourth straight game 32-13 to Shrewsbury.

Yesterday afternoon, the school celebrated a Grand Opening for the outdoor athletic facilities — the GonkPlex . (Fields and stands are still under construction, but the outdoor courts were open for play.)

Senior leaders organized a Pickleball Tournament. Students were invited to compete/watch pickleball or play spikeball on the Tennis Courts. The winning prize for tournament was a gift card to PickleHaus Deli in Northborough. Below is a peek, courtesy of the school’s official instagram account:
