Algonquin Cross Country had a great weekend. The Boys and Girls varsity teams both won the Central Mass Championships for the second straight year.

It turns out that I was wrong last week about the tournament signaling the end of their regular meets. They have one final league meet vs Bromfield this weekend.
Four Algonquin teams are competing in the Central Mass Athletic Director Association (CMADA) tournament this week: Field Hockey, Girls Volleyball, and Boys and Girls Soccer. All three of the Girls’ teams will play at home as the 2nd seed teams in the 8 player brackets.
Field Hockey is first up in the Quarter Finals at 4:00 today. (Which means they are still playing as I’m finishing this post.) Their competition is 7th seed Nashoba, a team they already beat twice this season.
Last week, the Titans racked up a tie (4-4 to Wachusett) and two more wins (6-0 over Auburn and 7-1 over Ashland). They currently have a 12-2-2 record. Prior to the most recent win, their MIAA Division 1 Power Ranking for the state tourneys slipped from #5 to 6.
Girls Volleyball will play 7th seed Groton-Dunstable in the Quarter Finals at 5:30 pm. Last week, they suffered one loss (3-2 to Shrewsbury) and two more wins (3-0 over Hopkinton and Nipmuc), updating their standing to 14-3. They’ve held steady at 4th place in the MIAA D2 Power Rankings.
Last week, the Telegram wrote about the veteran senior players helping the team’s success this season. You can read that here. (You can also check out Senior Night photos by Owen Jones Photography, like the one right, here.)
Wednesday evening, its Girls Soccer’s turn in the tourney. The Titans play 7th seed Wachusett, which they already beat twice this year. Last week, the Girls beat Grafton (2-1), lost to Nashoba (4-2), then beat Hingham (2-1). Their record is now 8-4-4. Their D1 Power Ranking rose one spot to 13 (even before their latest win).
Of the four teams in the CMADA tourneys, Boys Soccer has been having the roughest season. They’re entering as 6th seed. They’ll be travelling to 3rd seed Leominster on Tuesday.
Last week, they improved their record with two wins (2-0 over Bromfield and 6-1 over Grafton) and one loss (1-0 to Nashoba). They now stand at 8-6-2.
Last week, their qualification for the post-season tourneys appeared to be in jeopardy. Since then, their D1 Power Ranking shot up eight spots to 27th place. And that doesn’t cover their latest big win over previously undefeated Grafton. (You can see more photos highlights like the image right from Owens Jones Photography.) They now seem on track play in the state tourneys. (Last week it was looking dicey.)
Stay tuned for a mid-week update on which of the above are continuing in CMADA Semi-finals later this week.
Titans Football finally won its first game this season. The team beat Wachusett 22-11 (at Wachusett).
As I posted last week, there aren’t enough games scheduled left for them to earn the 3 wins needed to qualify for the playoffs. But hopefully they can score another victory for this Friday night’s Homecoming and Senior night. (For tickets, click here.)
The Titans Cheer team didn’t have luck placing at last week’s invitational tournament at Wachusett. But they still have a chance to qualify for at this weekend’s invitational at Shepherd Hill.
