This Thursday, you can cheer on two Algonquin teams competing in the Central Mass tourneys. While I’m sharing that news, I also have an update on the big GonkPlex outdoor athletics complex.
Central Mass Tourney Update
So far, Algonquin’s results for in the Central Mass Athletic Director Association tournament include a win, lose, and draw.
On Monday, 2nd Seed ARHS Field Hockey tied 1-1 with 7th seed Nashoba in the Quarter Finals. For the Semi-Finals,* CMADA paired them with 8th seed North Middlesex, which lost its Quarter Finals to top seed Wachusett. The matchup will take place tomorrow at 4:00 pm on the new turf field.
Girls Volleyball won its Quarter Finals. The 2nd Seed Titans beat Groton-Dunstable 3-0. For the Semi-Finals, they’ll face 3rd seed Nipmuc tomorrow at 5:30 pm.
6th seed Boys Soccer lost their Quarter Finals 3-2 to Leominster. They are still listed as playing in the tourney. Tomorrow night, they’ll travel to 5th seed North Middlesex, which lost its Quarter Finals to Shrewsbury. That game will take place at 7:00 pm
In Monday’s post, I mistakenly described Girls Soccer Quarter Finals as taking place on Tuesday. As the schedule further down had listed, that will actually take place tonight (at home). You can read about that matchup here.
The results have been posted for Monday’s CMass Boys Golf Tournament. It shows that Algonquin came in 12th place as a team. Unfortunately, none of the players made the top 11 in the rankings. So, it doesn’t appear anyone is moving on to the state championship. (You can find the results here.)
GonkPlex Update
The latest “NSboro News” email from the schools was issued yesterday afternoon. It included a message from Algonquin Principal Sean Bevan on the athletic complex construction project.
The message highlighted the good news about facilities in use (pickleball courts and the multipurpose field) or to be available soon (outdoor basketball courts in mid-November). But it also included less welcome news on the project for the big stadium field and grandstand:
At a Project Team Meeting last week, we learned that the stadium would be available in the spring season, not this November. There is a delay in the press box construction, and substantial completion will be issued once the press box is installed. Although we entered the school year with the hope that the stadium field would be ready for use for a few athletic events, unfortunately, that hope has been extinguished.

*Updated (10/27/23 7:50 am): It appears that the ARHS Athletics schedule mislabeled the 10/26 Field Hockey game as a Semi Finals match. According to the Telegram, it was just a consolation game.
