ARHS Postseason Update

Girls Soccer is out of tourneys; Field Hockey and Volleyball play this Friday night

Last year, Algonquin Girls Soccer made it all the way to the Finals, where they lost to Hingham. Dreams of winning the title this year were dashed last night.

But, as I covered yesterday morning, Girls Volleyball and Field Hockey are still in it. Yesterday afternoon, those Quarter Final game times were posted for this Friday night.

Here are the latest details in ARHS’ postseason journey this fall.

Girls Soccer took on 6th seed Franklin in the MIAA Division 1 playoffs last night. Franklin Matters website shared a recap from the managing editor of HockomockSports.com of some of the excitement:

With just under 16 minutes to go in Wednesday night’s Div. 1 Sweet Sixteen game at Pisini Field, Algonquin stunned the home crowd with an equalizing goal. The Titans had been pushing and had Franklin on it heels, so it felt like a goal was coming but its arrival was still deflating.

Unfortunately, he followed:

On the field, the Panthers were unfazed. They wasted no time regrouping and exactly a minute later they were right back in front.

You can read the rest of that coverage here (and see the game video here.) Bottom line, the Titans lost the Round of 16 game 1-2.

Tomorrow night, Titans Fans will have to choose which team to cheer on when two teams compete in the “Elite 8” at overlapping times.

They won’t compete with ARHS Football’s non-playoff game at Nashoba. It was moved up to tonight, Thursday, November 9th.

Tickets for all three games are only available online here.

I suspect Girls Volleyball will draw the biggest Gonk crowd, since their game is in the home gym. (And given their record, they are also the team with the best shot to go all the way.)

ARHS Titans Elite 8The 2nd seed D2 Titans will host the 10th seed North Quincy Raiders at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 10th.

Starting a half hour earlier, 7th seed Field Hockey will challenge 2nd seed Andover on the Golden Warrior’s turf.
