Last year, a Southborough parent founded a local mountain bike team for kids in grades 5-12. The team competes in New England Youth Cycling* races in the spring.

An info night to help recruit new members is being held in a few weeks.

NEYC Coyotes flyerRegistration opens on December 8th. Although it doesn’t close until the end of March, registration is capped – so don’t wait.

Resident Kevin Poultney founded the Coyotes, a team for Southborough and four neighboring towns. He explained that the team practices twice a week, biking 4-10 miles depending on the skill. The practices take place at Callahan State Park in Framingham and in Milford on the New England Mountain Bike Association trails (part of the Vietnam Trails Network).

Races are Sundays typically within an hour or so from Southborough and run from the last weekend in April until Mid-June. The races are 4 to 16 miles depending on race category.

Team organizers are holding their info night on Monday, December 5th at 6:00 pm at Landry’s Bicycles in Westborough. Attendees will hear an overview of the league, practices, equipment requirements, races and more.

If you plan to attend (or have questions) please email neyc.coyotes@gmail.com.

*From the flyer and NEYC website:

New England Youth Cycling is an interscholastic cycling league that enables New England teens to strengthen body, mind, and character through the sport of cycling.

The New England High School Cycling Association was founded in 2015. We provide a high-quality mountain bike racing experience while emphasizing the value of all participants and placing camaraderie, positive sporting behavior and the cultivation of health over the competition. Our first races took place in the Spring of 2016 in NH, MA, and RI. Now in our sixth year, the league has over tripled in size to 1,000+ athletes and over 30 teams
