Yesterday, the Northborough-Southborough Public Schools assured parents that they will get phone calls if school is delayed or cancelled in the future.
On Monday, February 8th, I wrote that I slept through texts from the Northborough-Southborough Public Schools about school being delayed two hours. After confirming I wasn’t the only one to not get a call, I contacted Superintendent Gregory Martineau. He said that calls should have been made in addition to the texts and that he would look into what happened.
Apparently, I’m not the only one to have reached out.
In yesterday’s weekly newsletter from the Superintendent, Martineau apologized to NSBORO families:
After last week’s two-hour delay, I received a few inquiries from parents asking why they had not received a notification. After reviewing the alert, I realized I did not click the link ‘send message text and voice.’ As a result, most people only received a text message. I apologize and will be sure to send the message via text and voice in future notifications.
Yesterday, morning, there was another NSBORO communications snafu over start times and delayed buses. I’m assuming that the lack of calls the prior week reinforced the initial false impression for some that “delays” referred to in texts meant that school was being delayed 2 hours. (Follow up texts were sent to clarify that they only meant buses were running late.)
That didn’t indicate a repeat incident, since texts and emails without phone calls is the method NSBORO generally uses for transportation delays.
If you have kids in the NSBORO schools and want to check whether the school has the correct contact information for your family for future emergency notices, make sure you are registered in Parent Square and check your account details.
