Updated (2/13/24 1:12 pm): I just learned that the Southborough Library is closed today.
Updated (2/13/24 8:09 am): NWS has updated its map this morning to show Southborough in a band of only 4-6″ of snow, while its text forecast states, “Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible” for our town.
Snow should be over before 5:00 pm and could even end by early afternoon.
Updated (2/12/24 5:05 pm): Northborough-Southborough Public Schools and Assabet Valley Regional Technical High Schools are cancelled for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 13th.
That also means the Southborough Senior Center will be closed. (For those keeping track, this is the first snow day of the school year. It will push the first-possible last day of school to Thursday, June 13th.)
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning. The latest info has snow not starting until tomorrow morning, Tuesday, February 13th.
NWS maps haven’t been updated since yesterday’s forecast showing our entire region as likely to get 8-12″.
On their website, the NWS forecast (last updated this morning) writes that Southborough could get 10-16: of snow, mainly falling between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. There also may be some wind gusts up to 30mph.
This morning, NWS posted a prediction of the storm timeline:
Rapidly deteriorating conditions after 7:00 am with snowfall rates as high as 2″ per hour.
Difficult travel due to low visibility and snow covered roads. . .
Snowfall rates continue to be as high [as] 2″+ through early afternoon. . .
Heavy snow and gusty winds may lead to power outages
No word yet on any school cancellations. The schools tend to wait until early morning to make those decisions in case conditions change — but there have been instances when the call was made by the evening prior.
