Algonquin’s Indoor Track is looking strong as they head towards this week’s Division 1 State Championships. The Boys and Girls Teams each won Sunday’s D1 District E Tournament, with team members racking up a bunch of achievements.

ARHS winners of the Women’s competitions were Junior Arianna Gentile for the 55 Meter Dash, Senior Brigid Purcell for the 1 Mile, Senor Olivia Guckian for the 2 Mile, Senior Olivia Labelle for the 55m Hurdles, and Senior Kate DiTillo for the Long Jump. Gonk Girls also won the 4×200 Relay. Plus, 2nd place finishers were Senior Sheila Purcell for the 1000 Meter and Senior Arianna Gentile for the Long Jump. ARHS winners of the Men’s competition were Miles Lipka for both the 55m Hurdles and Long Jump, Senior Joseph Lamburn for the 1 Mile, Senior Stephen White for the 2 Miles, and Senior Christopher Kardos for the 1000 Meter. The Boys also had a number of second place finishers — Junior Max Eigen for the 55 Meter Dash, Junior Jonah Gould for the 1000 Meter, and the team for the 4×400 relay.

On Friday, Algonquin will host Wrestling‘s Division 2 Championship tournament. Five Titans qualified to compete in through last Saturday’s Western Mass sectionals. Sophomore Eli Konarski and Senior Adam Ayzenshtat both placed 3rd for their weight classes, and Sophomore Ibrahim Rowe, Senior Alexander Franca, and Sophomore Eshaan Shah came in 4th.

The girls beat out Groton-Dunstable, Marlborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough. Highlights included Sophomore Kiera Akus coming in 2nd All Around and Senior Maddie Ho came 3rd. Akus scored 1st in the Floor competition, 2nd on the Beam and 3rd on the Vault. Ho came in 2nd for Floor and 3rd on the Beam. Junior Maya Regan came in 3rd on the Bars. (You can read more coverage and view more photos in the Telegram’s coverage here. You can also see a brief video of Akus and Ho speaking with a reporter here.)

In Swimming, the Boys came in #7 out of 24 teams at the recent West/Central Sectional, and the Girls #13 out of 26. Senior Axel Soderquist finished 2nd place for the Men’s 50 Yard Freestyle.

Girls Ice Hockey is currently ranked #8 for Division 2. Last week, they beat Franklin (4-2) and Auburn (4-0). Boys Ice Hockey is #12 for D2. Last week, they beat Groton-Dunstable (4-0) and Westborough (8-2). The second game was the 10th annual Matt Bruce Memorial Cup competition, in honor of a late ARHS Class of ’05 alum.

Last week, Girls Basketball lost to both Leominster (52-42) and Wachusett Regional (74-23). They now stand at 6-10 and are ranked #37 for D1. To make the playoffs they’ll need to improve to #32 or (33 with a 50/50 record).

Boys Basketball lost to Leominster (59-49) at home on Tuesday before beating Wachusett (57-56) on Friday. They now stand at 5-11 and are ranked #47. (With only a few weeks left to make the playoffs, that appears unachievable this year.)
