Obituary: Scully, James F.

Scully, James F. of Southborough formerly of Needham, March 4, 2024. Husband of Claire (Magliozzi) Scully. Loving father of Chelsie J. Rice and her husband Daniel of Roslindale and Jeffrey F. Scully of Dorchester. Brother of Kathye Scully-Hayes (JD), Patricia Gleason (Garrett), MaryEllen O’Malley (Joe), Susan Scully-Rose (Tom) and the late Margaret Crawford (Michael) and John Scully Jr. (Michele). Son of the late John C. and Barbara (Fougere) Scully. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and his late nephew Emmett O’Malley.

After graduating from Boston University, Jim enjoyed a long career in hospitality working for Sheraton hotels and Thompson Island.

In 1987, Jim married Claire and they went on to have two children: Chelsie and Jeffrey. They spent summers camping on Cape Cod and enjoyed many island vacations together.

In his free time, Jim loved quality time with his family; at the beach, in the pool, on the couch reading or watching scary movies and football.

Always the competitor; Jim was a Division I collegiate diver, 2 time Boston Marathon runner, avid pool shark, Pac-Man and Asteroids enthusiast.

He had a passion for coaching youth sports; CYO basketball in particular. After retiring from his decorated tenure as a head coach in the NBA (Needham Basketball Association) he continued to coordinate and officiate for the league, volunteering his weekends for the community.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave. Needham on Friday, March 15, from 4-6pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private.
