Rec Connect: “Sensory Friendly” Railers Hockey trip and Family Night Science Spectacular

In December, Southborough Rec announced a special partnership with Shrewsbury and Northborough to offer adaptive and inclusive programs. I’m sharing news on two upcoming programs.

One is an outing for “teens and adults with diverse abilities”, and another is a family event for “participants of all ages with a disability and their family members”.

Rec Connect: Worcester Railers Hockey Game

Railers flyerOn the evening of Wednesday, March 27th, the Worcester Railers game will be “sensory friendly”:

with decreased auditory and visual stimulation for those with sensory sensitivities.

The Rec Connect program is open to ages 16+ (with some restrictions)* Transportation will be provided from either the Southborough Rec Department (21 Highland Street) or Shrewsbury Town Hall.

Participants will depart Southborough at 5:45 pm and return at approx. 9:30 pm. Registration costs $15 per person, but:

Participants must bring their own money to purchase food and souvenirs and anything else they may desire at the DCU Center. Staff support is available for money management.

The Worcester ice hockey team is scheduled to play the New Foundland Growlers.

Rec Connect: Family Night Science Spectacular

Family NightOn Thursday April 4th, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Northborough is hosting a program for all ages and families to take part in science experiments:

Families will have an opportunity to connect with others who attend Rec Connect programs in a welcoming and supportive space. Families will make and take home 5-6 weird and wacky hands-on Science Experiments!

The cost is $10 per family. It will take place in the gymnasium at Northborough Town Hall. To register, click here.

*The Rec website outlines the safety guidelines for participation requirements.
