[The Boston Marathon always includes a pack of runners from our town. Between now and Patriots Day, I’m featuring stories of resident runners donning bibs for a cause]
This is the third time that Southborough’s Brendan Giblin is running in the Boston Marathon. This time around, he is raising money that will be directed to “Let’s Win Pancreatic Cancer”.
The organization aims to break down “barriers between patients, doctors, and researchers so that everyone diagnosed with pancreatic cancer has easy access to the latest information about the best treatment options.”
The goal is personal to Giblin who is running in honor of his late father. Giblin’s fundraising page states:
As many of you are aware I lost my father, Kevin Giblin (The Gibber) on April 3, 2017 to pancreatic cancer. His diagnosis and the months that followed were traumatic and earth shattering for me and my family.
I am running in honor and memory of my best friend and dad. I will be running nearly 7 years and two weeks after losing him. Participating in the event is a true challenge but raising critical funding and awareness will make a difference in the fight against cancer.
To raise the funds, Giblin is running as part of the team for Golf Fights Cancer. The non-profit is “dedicated to raising funds for cancer-related charities and research organizations with the goal of fighting cancer and making financial contributions that can make immediate, tangible differences.”
