The public is invited to take part in Southborough’s “Community Read”, featuring the novel-in-verse, Before the Ever After.
The Community Read is a partnership between Southborough Youth and Family Services and the Southborough Library. Books are available through the Southborough Library to start reading now.
The program is part of SYFS’ annual initiative to promote Mental Health Awareness in May. (Stay tuned for the calendar of events and a call for stories that I’ll be posting tomorrow.)
On May 2nd at 7:00 pm, readers will be able to take part in a book discussion over zoom.
The event flyer describes the plot of Jacqueline Woodson’s book as exploring:
how a family moves forward when their glory days have passed and a father’s injuries threaten to break their family apart.
A story about a family in distress sounds appropriate for the May theme, “When Life Gives You Lemons”.
And because it’s a young adult book, it’s a quick read for adults and teens can also take part. (Bonus — it’s a good selection to check out right now for those embracing April as National Poetry Month.)
According to the flyer, books are available to check out through the Southborough Library. The library’s catalog provides an option to put a hold on the book and listen to a preview of the audio book version. You can also read more about the book and find an excerpt to read here.
To register for the virtual book discussion, visit tinyurl.com/SYFSRead or email skinayman@southboroughma.com.
This is just one of many plans SYFS has to promote Mental Health Awareness Month. So, stay tuned for more news.
Updated (4/12/24 12:56 pm): I added this year’s theme for the month.
