Obituary: Christopher M. Whitman, 76

Christopher M. Whitman, 76, of Marlborough and formerly of Southborough, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA.

He was the son of the late Harold and Constance (Dumont) Whitman and husband of Robin (Grillo) Whitman. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Whitman.

Born in Washington, DC, Chris grew up in Newton, Brighton and Southborough. He graduated from Algonquin Regional High School in 1965. While in high school he was very active in cross country and track. After spending a year at the University of Kentucky, Chris enlisted in the US Army. He served two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart. Chris returned to college, receiving a BA from University of Massachusetts and a second BA from Northeastern. He and Robin married in 1979 after a 10-year courtship.

Chris’ greatest joy was his son and namesake, Christopher Whitman Jr. Other interests included reading, writing, movies and TV. He was especially fond of the Law & Order TV franchise shows. He was a member of Articulators Toastmasters in Hudson for many years. Chris was an avid New England Patriots fan, often donning team clothing.

In addition to his wife, Chris leaves his son, Christopher Whitman, Jr., his daughter-in-law Dina and granddaughter Yafa of Jerusalem, Palestine, his brother Stanley Whitman, his step-sister Brendylynn Horn and her husband Robert, as well as his cousins Joyce Hamblin, Carol Sheehan, and her husband Jerry.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 5:00-7:00PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, MA 01772. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 11:15 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Av., Bourne, MA 02532.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
