Here are my highlights from last week’s competitions and what’s on tap this week in high school sports.
Last week, the co-op Girls Golf team (out of Westborough) beat Auburn, Nashoba, and Quabbin, but lost to Ayer-Shirley. They now stand at 8-2.
Three games in, Algonquin Girls Rugby is undefeated. Last Friday they beat Weymouth 40-22 in their first home game of the season. (You can watch the game here.) Boys Rugby won beat Chelmsford 38-34, improving its record to 3-1. (You can watch that here.) In the most recent MIAA Power Rankings, the Girls are ranked #2 out of 7 teams and the Boys are ranked #5 out of 13 for Division 2.
Titans Boys Lacrosse is currently on a four game winning streak. Last week they beat Leominster (12-3), Shrewsbury (9-0), and Westborough (11-1). They now stand at 8-3 and are ranked #19 for Division 2.
Girls Lacrosse improved its record to 7-4 after beating Leominster (11-9) and Shrewsbury (10-8) but losing to Westborough (14-9). They are ranked #25 in D2.
Boys Volleyball beat Nashoba on Monday 3-1. But they lost 3-0 to Keefe Tech on Friday. They now stand at 2-6. MIAA has them ranked #50 for Division 1.
However, last week was a rough one for some Gonk teams.
Baseball lost three games straight last week to St. Paul (1-0), Shrewsbury (2-0), and Wachusett (3-2). Softball won both games in its double header against Fitchburg last Monday (23-7 and 12-7). But the team lost its following two games against Nashoba (10-1) and Shepherd Hill (16-0). Both teams now stand at 4-7 for the season. Baseball is #16 for Division 2 and Softball is #41 for Division 1.
Five weeks into the season, Boys Tennis has yet to win a game. Their record is now 0-6 after losing a double header to Westborough (5-0 and 4-1) plus a regular game St. John’s (5-0). They are ranked #38 for D2. The Girls also lost their double headers with Westborough (5-0 and 4-1) but they did beat Quaboag (3-1) later in the week. They now stand at 5-4 for the season and are ranked #11 for D1.
The school hasn’t been posting results for Outdoor Track’s recent meets. This weekend, the Boys and Girls teams will each compete in the District Championships.
