Obituary: Helen (Kofos) Clasby, 92

A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen (Kofos) Clasby will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2024, at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Newton.

Mrs. Clasby was born in Newport, Vermont to the late Nicholas and Pauline (Polizou) Kofos. Helen passed away after a brief illness on May 19, 2024, in Providence, Rhode Island.  She was 92.

She graduated from Marlborough High School in 1951. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1955. Her first job was at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals in Michigan where she worked on the polio vaccine. She returned home to Marlborough and worked as a microbiologist at Marlborough Hospital, eventually becoming department head until her retirement. When she retired, she volunteered at the Southborough Senior Center.

A sports enthusiast, she was a New England Patriots season ticket holder for 53 years. She loved Celtics basketball and men’s and women’s college basketball. She loved talking about sports with anyone who would listen.

Helen’s hands were a gift from God. She cross-stich tablecloths for her dining table where she loved preparing holiday meals for her family. She knit Afghans for relatives and most recently hand knit scarfs for family, friends, Massachusetts General Cancer Center, and the East Bay Food Pantry in Bristol RI. Helen loved to send handwritten cards or notes to family and friends for every occasion as it made her feel connected to people.

Helen’s greatest joy was her four grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of the late Chester F. Clasby, Jr.  Loving mother of Alison Kelley & her husband Chris of Warren RI and Karen Sheridan & her husband William of Southborough. Dear sister of the late Monthe Kofos and Cleopatra Agahigian. Loving grandmother of Sophia & Amy Sheridan and Patrick & Olivia Kelley.

Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St. Watertown on Wednesday May 29, 2024, at 9:30 AM, followed by Funeral Mass Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington St. Newton at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-7 PM. Interment Private.
