Three Algonquin teams falling out of the state playoffs since my last sports post, putting an official end to ARHS Titans’ spring sports.
Last year, ARHS Girls Rugby didn’t make the MIAA playoffs which only includes four teams for the entire state. This year, the team qualified as 2nd seed. Unfortunately, the girls lost 60-29 to their 3rd seed competition in the Semi-Finals on Saturday. The Community Advocate covered the loss:
Weymouth jumped out to a 33-7 lead with 3 minutes left in the first half. With a try by junior Niamh McLaughlin as time expired in the first half, and a strong start to the second half, Algonquin narrowed the lead to 38-29, but the Weymouth offense took over at that point and had control for the remainder of the game.

Last Tuesday, ARHS Baseball played in the Division 2 Sweet 16. The #8 Titans lost to #9 Westwood 6-3.
#19 Boys Lacrosse fell out of the playoffs at D2’s Round of 32. The Titans lost to Plymouth South 8-4.
I tracked down Algonquin’s results from the MIAA Outdoor Track Meet of Champions on May 30th & June 1st that I couldn’t find in time for last week’s post. Some of them were quite impressive.
Here are the Titans who finished in the top 10 for their events:
- Girls 4×100 Meter Relay — 1st place: A. Gentile, O. LaBelle, M. Clark, A. Helwig
- Girls 100m Hurdles — 2nd place: Olivia LaBelle
- Boys High Jump — 3rd place: Miles Lipka
- Boys Pole Vault — 7th place: Zach Arvantely
- Boys Javelin Throw — 8th place: Joshua Coleburn
- Boys Javelin Throw — 9th place: Miles Lipka
The Boston Globe shared a few photos from the events by ARHS student photojournalist Laura White here. Metrowest Daily News’ photojournalist captured some other ARHS athletes in the competition here.
For students interested in competing in sports next fall, the school posted a reminder that registration is open now through August 13th, with practices and tryouts in mid-August:
