SPD on auto thefts and valuables stolen from unlocked vehicles early this morning

Two vehicles were recovered; one Framingham minor was arrested but other unidentified suspects are "at large".

Southborough Police issued a press release this morning about their “early morning” pursuit and arrest of a minor who allegedly was one of multiple thieves that stole cars and took items from “unsecured vehicles throughout the south side of Town”.

The press release issued by Lt Sean McCarthy* states:

In the early morning hours of Monday, July 1st, 2024, the Southborough Police were investigating a report of a stolen motor vehicle that was taken from a residence on Cordaville Road. During the initial response, Southborough Police Officers located an additional stolen motor vehicle that was taken from a residence on Moulton Road.

After a brief pursuit, which ended in the City of Framingham, a suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. The suspect, a juvenile out of Framingham, was transported back to SPD, booked, and charged with the following:

  • Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Property
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

The investigation is ongoing. There are currently multiple unidentified suspects at large. The suspect(s) not only stole multiple motor vehicles, but also stole many items/valuables out of unsecured vehicles throughout the south side of Town. Locked motor vehicles were not disturbed.

Our overnight shift, Investigator Tyler Lu, Officer Riley Brown, and Officer Owen O’Brien did an outstanding job by safely taking a suspect into custody, while producing many leads, for possible future apprehensions. Thank you to Framingham Police for their assistance.

*Lt McCarthy is the acting chief while Chief Ryan Newell is on vacation.
