It only takes 30 minutes to learn how to save a life and get the free tools to do it.
The Greater Boroughs Partnership for Health is providing more opportunities for the public to learn how to use Narcan, plus have the necessary supplies.
The free life-saving training sessions will be offered each month at the Southborough Library this fall. Each session is open to anyone ages 12 years and older.
As a flyer for the next session promotes:
Nearly 40% of overdose deaths occur while a bystander is present. Narcan access for bystanders can help save lives.
The flyer also stresses that when Narcan is used on someone who overdosed on opioids, it poses no harm to anyone who hasn’t taken them.
The event page explains:
Narcan is the brand name of the generic naloxone and is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids – including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription medications – when given in time.
This Free Narcan training will provide participants with a brief training on how to recognize an opioid overdose, when and how to use Narcan, and a free kit to take home.
The kit will include:
- 2 doses of Narcan
- Fentanyl test strips with instructions
- Face shield
- Instructions on Narcan administration
- Recovery resource guide
The events (sponsored by the Greater Boroughs, the Town, and the Library) will be held at the Southborough Library on third Tuesday evening of each month from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. The dates are:
- September 17th
- October 15th
- November 19th
- December 17th
