Southborough Rec is promoting two levels of outdoor Pickleball lessons for beginners starting the the week after next — Beginner 1 for newbies and Beginner 2 for those who already know the ropes but need help with their skills.

These opportunities usually fill up quickly. So be sure to sign up soon if you are interested!

The lessons are for adults ages 18+, offered at $90 per session, which covers six weekly 90 minute lessons.

Both levels of classes are led by “Certified Pickleball Instructor” Lisa Giusti. Each class is limited to 8 players. For Beginner 1 classes there are three timeslots, but only one Beginner 2 class.

Beginner 1

An instructional pickleball program for athletes new to the sport or just beginning. Learn the game’s rules, techniques and skills. The curriculum will begin with the basics and end with participants playing full games against each other.

  • Tuesdays, September 3rd to October 8th, 10:00 – 11:30 am
  • Wednesdays, September 4th to October 9th, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

Beginner 2

Players must have either already completed a prior Beginner 1 clinic or be “rated 2.5 with knowledge of scoring and court positioning”.

This is for players who want to gain more confidence on the court and improve their overall pickleball experience. The program focuses on proper technique and mechanics in developing more consistency with shots like dinks, drops, groundstrokes, volleys, serves, etc.

The class will be held Wednesdays, September 4th to October 9th, 10:30 – 11:30 am.

Field location posted by Southborough Rec on FacebookAll classes are held at the Tennis Courts at Mooney Field. (That’s on the Finn School campus, 60 Richards Road. (See image of parking and location right.)

To sign up for any of the classes, click here. (Note: If you can’t load the page, that means the site is still temporarily down.*)

*Updated (8/23/24 8:24 am): The instructor changed the schedule for the evening Beginner 1 class to Wednesday evenings. I updated that and replaced the flyer.

Plus, readers who tried to register yesterday or this morning will have discovered the website is down. According to Rec, the entire “MyRec” system across the state is currently down. But they hope that will be resolved today. (Once it is back up, they’ll still have to edit the schedule for the evening class.)
