Tomorrow, August 30th, registration opens for Southborough Recreation’s fall lineup of programs.

To avoid the programs you want most filling up before you can sign up (especially the first session of “RAP”), you’ll want to start exploring the options today.

And if you’ve never signed your family up for a Rec Program, you’ll need to create an account (which you can also start today).

Rec’s website was temporarily down last week, but it is back up and running. So you can find much more detail on each program there.

For this post, I’ll mainly focus on the first RAP (Recreation After School Programs) and special half day after school options. But I’m also sharing the program guide for all Fall & Winter programs that you can open here. According to Rec, there are some important edits since it was designed:

  • The first session of Woodward RAP won’t include Hydropower Explorers. (It will be offered for the second session that starts in mid-October.)
  • As I previously posted, the Pickleball Lesson schedule has changed

Rec also asked me to highlight the increased Rec Connect activities planned. You can read about those, including next week’s Sneaker Prom here.

Half Day Fun

Rec is offering special after school programs for Woodward and Neary students to help bridge the gap between early and regular dismissal on the Wellness Day in November and the early kickoff to the holiday break in December.

Kids will need to pack a nut-free lunch and water bottle to bring with them. For both days, registered kids will be transported after school by van to Rec’s program space at 21 Highland Street. (And that’s where parents should pick them up at 3:30 pm.)

Rec will screen a movie, offer “movie snacks”, and organize other activities. The cost is $15 per child:

Rec’s flyer refers to “Onesie Day” with crafts, games, and a movie. The website promotes “celebrate Dia de los Muertos with some fun art projects and a projector showing of Disney Pixar’s CoCo”. (Click here to register.)

RAP Session 1

Some of the popular after school programs can fill up quickly.

The first session of the series will kick off the week of September 9th. Each program covers five classes, mainly running through October 9th. (Since there is no school on October 3rd, for Rosh Hashanah, the Thursday programs will run through October 17th.)

Most of the program titles are self-explanatory. For those that aren’t, I added a little context.

Most programs takes place at the school. (Only the WW Sew Studio program is offsite for this session.) Prices vary by program, starting at $100 to just under $200.

Neary RAP Programming

For Neary, Rec will also offer the annual months-long after school theater program. But that won’t start until December. (You can learn more about this year’s program to put on “The Jungle Book Kids” here.)
