The forecast for Saturday is looking like a gorgeous day to be outdoors. And the Open Space Preservation Commission is hoping you’ll spend part of it at Beals Preserve.
In partnership with the regional Bumble Bee Project, OSPC is inviting the community to a “Pollination Potluck Picnic and Garden Tour”.
Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to eat and share with others, picnic style, between 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on September 14th by the garden at Beals Preserve. The picnic & tour event is free, but registration is required.
In addition to enjoying a social lunch with a view, you can:
meet other enthusiasts interested in planting native plants that support pollinators at-risk, following the guidelines provided to us by Dr. Robert Gegear’s research.
See the beauty of the garden. Come and mingle, share your successes and challenges, ask questions, enjoy a meal, and join Freddie Gillespie for a tour of the Whit Beals Biodiversity Through Pollination Garden which was planted in 2022.
There aren’t any tables at the site, so participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs to eat on their laps. (Though, I assume, picnic blankets also work.)
If picnicking isn’t your thing, you can still just swing by to learn more about the project and the pollinator friendly plants. As the invite notes, the nearby Art on the Trails exhibit (which closes on Sunday) is also in Whit Beals’ honor this year.
